Lee Roy Selmon's history combines family football scholarship and volunteerism in the community. He was the youngest son of Lucious Selmon and Jessie Selmon. They had him raised on their farm in Eufala. Another reason for his football career was that Selmon is the youngest of three brothers to play with Oklahoma. Three of them were All-Americans. They made the All-America team in 1973. Lee Roy and Lucious Jr. Dewey were the players for one season. Lee Roy was named the most offensive lineman in the United States by Outland as well as Lombardi Awards. For three years, Oklahoma was 32-1-1 with Roy as the starter. Also, they won two national championships. Selmon was a National Football Foundation Scholarship-Athlete, Selmon was given the opportunity to receive a scholarship in his third time in 1975. Selmon received a degree in education. Lee Roy spent ten hours a week on volunteer work during his college years. He moved to Tampa after graduation, and played with the Buccaneers for nine seasons and made three times all-pro. His business career began. By 1988 he had become an Account Representative for Tampa's First Florida Bank and worked with these groups: Special Olympics Easter Seals Baptist Church Ronald McDonald House United Negro College Fund South Florida Institute on Black Life Hall of Fame Bowl Committee. So it's not surprising that In 1982, the Junior Chamber of Commerce named Lee Roy as one of America's 10 outstanding young men. Lee Roy, a 6-2-inch taller and weighing the hefty 256 pounds at college when he was an athlete, was captain of his team during the season of 1975. In 1993, he became the athletic director's assistant at University of South Florida. He was named associate director of athletics by the College Football Hall of Fame was named for the player in the year 1988. GTE Academic All-America Hall of Fame in 1994. Pro Football Hall of Fame, in 1995. The Oklahoma City Chapter National Football Foundation presented the Distinguished American Award for 1989 to Lucious Selmon, Sr. Henry Bellmon is the Oklahoma governor, who presented this award.
